Step 1: Prepare the Cauliflower
- To begin, cut the cauliflower into florets. I find that cutting them into bite-sized pieces helps them cook evenly. You want them to be similar in size to ensure that everything cooks at the same rate. Once you have all the florets cut, give them a quick rinse under cool water and then dry them gently.
Step 2: Season
- Next, transfer the cauliflower florets into a large microwave-safe bowl. Drizzle the olive oil or melted butter over the florets, followed by the garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. I like to give it a good toss with my hands to make sure each piece is coated and happy.
Step 3: Cover and Microwave
- Now, cover the bowl with a microwave-safe lid or plate. This will trap the steam and cook the cauliflower evenly. Microwave on high for about 5-7 minutes. Your actual cooking time may differ based on your microwave's strength. I recommend checking it at the 5-minute mark. You want it tender but not mushy! Give it another 1-2 minutes if necessary.
Step 4: Fluff and Serve
- Once the cauliflower is done, carefully remove the bowl from the microwave—watch out for the steam. Use a fork to fluff up the florets gently. You'll notice the gorgeous colors and the enticing aroma.
Notes
- Cauliflower: The star of our dish. This cruciferous vegetable is low in calories but high in fiber and vitamins. When cooking, ensure you don’t overdo it. You want to retain some bite for texture.
- Extra-Virgin Olive Oil: Oils vary in flavor. Choose one that you enjoy or that brings out the flavors you love. This ingredient also contributes healthy fats.
- Garlic Powder: A quick seasoning option that works wonders. It's convenient and blends into the dish easily.
- Smoked Paprika: This spice isn't just for show. It can add brightness and enhance the taste of the cauliflower.
- Kosher Salt: This salt has a coarser grain, allowing for better seasoning control. Use it judiciously to avoid overwhelming the other flavors.
